The answer is simple. Respect for women and for other people. The standards of beauty, or handsomeness in the case of men, can change over time, but one thing remains the same and it is our utter respect of women.
This is the concept of "manliness" that all men across generation and ethnicity must learn. Let us not believe that chivalry is dead.
Being "manly" is being able to stand on your feet, protect your beliefs, and still respect the different opinions of others. Being "manly" is to show utmost respect and admiration to women all over the world. That is the one thing that must never cease to exist in the concept of "manly" -- respect.
Thus, a "modern man" must be someone who is not afraid to show who he really is and at the same time respect and accept others for who they really are. A modern man must be able to support the women in his life in their endeavors. A modern man must support his mother, his wife, his sister, in reaching for their dreams.
It also does not hurt to say that it is the men who are inspired with the women in their lives that look the most gorgeous.
